Insomnia

Today we woke up super early for some reason and we're both unsure as to why we couldn't sleep past 7am. This did however allow us to get an earlier start and find a random Thai breakfast place. When we looked at the menus we realized the place wasn't actually open until 11:30, but they didn't give us any grief (that we know of). The language barrier in general doesn't give us many problems, but there are the occasional interactions where we really don't know if we're on the same page. For example, I don't think the food we got this morning was what we ordered, but we'll never know.

Then we walked over to The Big Buddha that all the tuk tuk drivers were trying to get us to go to. It was magnificent. There were a lot of people praying on the "campus" of where this Buddha was. We're still unsure if they see cats as a holy animal because they're everywhere.

Since our trip has been so stressful, we decided to get our first Thai massage and it wasn't a mistake. It's basically a full body massage where they push in your pressure points and twist things. The way they move your body with such confidence and strength feels amazing, it's hard to explain. My favorite part was that it started storming while we were getting massaged. It's like sleeping during a storm, v relaxing.

Before heading out to the train we chatted with our host who told us about a boat ride we should take in Bangkok. He was from north Bangkok and started this home stay with his friends about 8 months ago. Maybe at the end of our trip when we're back in Bangkok we'll try it out. It's in the perfect location. In a busy area, but down a quiet alley. It's necessary to have a little breathing room in such a bustling city.

We took our first tuk tuk today as well. It's a thrill, comparable to a roller coaster. Cutting off every vehicle on the way to the train station, our driver made sure we got to our train two hours early. We stocked up on snacks and found our seats. AIR CONDITIONING! And thank god. Could not imagine a sleeper train without ac.

The last two days have shown me how simple people live, and how happy you can be with so little. The houses are literally 2-3 rooms and their kitchens are their front porch.
