Travel Day to Vientiane

Today we woke up, ate breakfast and headed off in our minibus to Vientiane. It was a small minivan but we were blessed enough to have working air conditioning and to get seats that had some leg room. It was about a 4 hour ride to Vientiane and we took a tuk tuk directly to our hotel.

Villa Lao Hotel is a nice, quiet property within a busy city. We have AC and our own private porch to hang out on. There's a calm courtyard area to hang out in too.

We dropped off our stuff and headed into town to find some lunch. The city is much busier than Vang Vieng or Luang Prabang. We ended up grabbing a bite to eat at a French restaurant. The food was delicious. I had a duck and mango salad. It wasn't the cheapest food we've eaten, but we have also realized that Laos is a little more expensive in comparison to the other countries we are visiting.

After lunch we posted up at a cafe to look into our next couple days, and write about the last couple days. We enjoyed relaxing while watching the busy city pass us by.

And of course we played cribbage. We went on to the market, which was a quick stop because it wasn't all that impressive. It seemed to be offering a bunch of knock off brand stuff, with a lot less handmade goods than the other Laotian markets.

After cruising through the market we walked on the waterfront to get to our dinner place.

We picked a Laotian restaurant to end our Laos trip. The food was good as usual, and we even got live music and a show!

They were doing traditional Laotian dances and wearing traditional Laotian clothing. The restaurant seemed a little touristy, but it was cool to see some of their traditional customs.

We walked back after dinner and soaked in some of the AC before falling asleep. We're off to Vietnam tomorrow afternoon and plan to just relax before our 2pm flight.

We were very glad to have spent so much time in Luang Prabang, as opposed to Vientiane. It was much easier to just relax and enjoy the culture in Luang Prabang. Not to say Vientiane doesn't have a lot to offer, but it's more of a city than a calm place to relax. Needless to say, we planned it right!
